Camp is open to children completing 5th, 6th, or 7th grades this spring.

Science is one of three national 4-H mission mandates, and as of July 1, 2013, STEM Pathways is an OSU Extension signature program designed to develop an awareness of and appreciation for careers that address current trends in workforce skills necessary to compete in a high-tech global society. STEM Camp at Canter's Cave provides authentic STEM experiences for as many as 90 youths each June, and OSU Extension professionals work in partnership with STEM professionals to relate those experiences to careers and educational requirements. The camp also develops 21st-century workforce skills including teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and leadership.
At STEM Camp, participants:
- Engage in hands-on exploration of STEM.
- Learn about related careers and educational requirements.
- Grow both as individuals and as team members.
- Develop and practice communication skills.
- Have fun!
The camp content is STEM-focused. Extension staff team up with professionals in targeted STEM career fields to develop and present three-hour, hands-on, in-depth explorations of the field, with the information provided on additional related careers, educational requirements for those careers, and so on. Participants choose a STEM area to explore, and they work together to create a presentation on that area for their parents and guests on the morning of Day 3. They have opportunities to work together in groups to complete engineering design challenges, as well as to enjoy traditional camp activities with a STEM spin, such as campfire, with a fire science or chemistry focus.
