Steer weigh-in for Jackson County Junior Fair exhibitors will be held from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Jackson County Fairgrounds in the Show Arena. Please note this particular date is later than usual, as steer weigh-in has typically been held during the month of December.

Steer weigh in is an important step in the junior fair process, held each year to establish possession of animals and determine initial weights that will eventually be used to determine rate-of-gain.

Per new Ohio Department of Agriculture state regulations – steers must be castrated before reaching 8 months of age. Steers MUST be castrated prior to this weigh-in.

In the event of inclement weather, a decision to delay or postpone will be made by 6 a.m. on the day of the weigh-in. Any decision will be posted on the Jackson County OSU Extension Facebook page, which can be accessed at the following URL: Facebook.com/JacksonCoExtension

Steers should be called or emailed in to the Jackson County OSU Extension Office by 4:30 p.m. January 5, 2016 if you plan on participating in the weigh-in. You can complete this registration by calling (740) 286-5044 (you can leave a voice message); or emailing your name, phone number (mobile preferred) and number of steers to Bradford Sherman, Office Associate, at sherman.1473@osu.edu.
